Bulking diet – enough calories?

I received a few emails and answered a few posts on the message boards yesterday concerning my planned bulking diet; specifically the number of calories I’ll be ingesting each day. Some people feel that 2,500 – 2,800 calories is too low for a bulking diet. I decided on that amount based on my own knowledge of my body and how it reacts to food and exercise. After almost 2 years of carefully tracking my food intake and stats, I really do feel that 2,500 – 2,800 calories per day is plenty of food for me and that I will be able to reach my bulking goals while eating that amount. Also, keep in mind that I (like most people) tend to underestimate the number of calories ingested. I’d say one could safely add 10% to the amounts shown in my logs, which puts me closer to 3,000 calories per day (once I’ve ramped up to my final bulking diet.)

Anyway, I will certainly increase the amount of food I’m eating if my progress is not what I expect. I’m really serious about this, and am putting as much effort into my bulking program as I did when I was first losing fat. Barring injury, I’m going to post a picture in early 2005, flexed with a tape around my arm. It’s going to read at least 16″. I wouldn’t bet against me. 🙂
