Today is “chore” day: yard work, wash the car, clean the house. Hopefully Lisa and I can get all that done by early afternoon because I really want to watch some DVDs. My HDTV was long overdue for a recalibration. It’s not a fun job, but yesterday I broke out my Avia calibration DVD, the color filters and my service manual. After I calibrated the display, I put the display into service mode and gave it a complete 81-point convergence (which it desperately needed) and adjusted the geometry. Now the blacks are deep and detailed, the colors are rich and vibrant and the convergence and geometry are dead-on accurate. Everything looks just about perfect! I also broke out my SPL meter and recalibrated my 7.1 surround system. After I finished all the calibrations, I popped in the new 2-Disc Special Edition of “The Deer Hunter” and was blown away. This is the first time “The Deer Hunter” has been released on home video in its proper aspect ratio with anamorphic encoding. Universal did a good job on the transfer/restoration: It’s hard to believe the film is 27 years old!

I’d better get my cardio out of the way and get to work. I hope you have a great Sunday!
