Thanksgiving is this coming Thursday (USA), and I’ve got a lot to accomplish before the big gathering at our house. Today Lisa and I will be shopping, cleaning and planning the festivities. I like this time of year a lot. I’m looking forward to the cool weather, a few days off from work and spending time with my family and friends.

It’s dangerously easy to take all the good things in our lives for granted. Many of us spend a lot of our time complaining about our problems instead of focusing on the countless positive things in our lives. I’ve found that if I take a little time each day to think about how fortunate and blessed I am, the problems I face are put into proper perspective. I encourage those of you who only give thanks one day a year (or not at all), to spend a little time each day considering the good in your life. Focus on adding something new to that list of good things each day. When I was a negative thinker, little things like an appliance breaking down would send me into a tailspin. How spoiled of me! If my dishwasher broke down this morning, it wouldn’t make me angry or upset; I’d wash the dishes by hand while thinking about how fortunate I am to have a machine that washes my dishes (even if it needs repair)! I’m not saying I never get angry, that’s silly. What I’m talking about is making a conscious effort to think positive and put life’s problems into their proper perspective.

I’d better get going, I’ve got a haircut at 8:30 AM and I still need to shower and eat! Have a wonderful day.
