Drying out!

Massive quantities of water, 100% “clean”, all-natural foods, no added salt or sweeteners… This morning I’m down to 189.4 pounds. Clearly I’m already starting to dry out, thanks to the “Peak Week” diet Mastover has me doing for the final week of my 2007 cutting phase. The results should be even more dramatic over the next few days, as this morning’s first meal is the last time I’ll be consuming any carbs (with the exception of grapefruit) for the rest of the week.

Because I can’t use any sweeteners this week, my oats have just been plain with a little cinnamon mixed in. This is not bad at all, but a little bland. A few days ago I tried eating my oats raw, and really enjoyed them like that. They seemed more flavorful that way. This morning’s first meal called for 1 cup of egg whites and 1/3 cup of oats. I just dumped the raw oats in with the egg whites and cooked them together. It was surprisingly good!

The rest of today’s meals will consist of chicken, egg whites, unsalted cashews and grapefruit. After today, all my meals for the rest of the week will be 6 ounces of 96% lean ground beef and 1/2 grapefruit. On Friday some unsalted cashews are added, plus a tiny bit of protein powder with meal #1.

“Pre-contest” dieting is all new to me. I’m very anxious to see what effect it has on my physique. I’ll admit that I’m a little nervous about how I’m going to look on Saturday, but I trust Mastover completely. He has a lot of experience in this area, and he’s not steered me wrong yet!
