Yesterday I wrote a bit about the intense cravings I experienced on Tuesday evening, and how I fought off the desire to stray from my planned diet. Yesterday I had absolutely no cravings for junk food. I thought about why my cravings were so strong on Tuesday, and non-existent on Wednesday. The answer seems pretty obvious: Tuesday was a very stressful day for me, and yesterday was not. I think the desire to use food as a source of comfort and as a reward is so ingrained in most of us that it’s almost impossible to change. I completely changed my lifestyle over five years ago and I still find that the same old stuff triggers cravings for junk food.

I’d like everyone who participates on the JSF Forum to please take a couple of minutes and review the forum rules. There are a couple of new rules, and also some changes to the existing rules. The most obvious change is the addition of rule #4, but I’d really appreciate it if everyone would read the document in its entirety. Rule #4 is really just an extension of rule #1 (which prohibits rudeness towards another member), but it gets a little more specific about certain types of rudeness that are perhaps less overt than outright flaming.

Moving on to another subject, the new servers will be here tomorrow! After carefully evaluating the most recent releases of several Linux distributions, I’ve decided that I’ll be running the new JSF servers on Debian Linux. Ubuntu LTS Server impressed me on several levels, but ultimately I felt much more comfortable working with Debian. Gentoo, which is the Linux distro that the current JSF servers run, was a distant third. I used to love Gentoo, but compared to the other two distros I evaluated its PMS (portage) is a complete mess.

Have a great day!
