Temptations; Great cardio workout yesterday; Sunday plans.

Man, the temptation to cheat was very strong again yesterday. I think it’s because I’m used to relaxing my diet a bit on the weekend (I usually have my weekly cheat meal on the weekend, plus popcorn when we watch movies). Yesterday when Lisa and I sat down to watch a movie, I was craving popcorn in the worst way. I came pretty close to caving in, but I refused to do so. I think it’s just a matter of getting back in the zone I need to be in. The best way for me to get to where I need to be is to eliminate all cheats – “all or nothing” really does work best for me.

Actually this is just a little three week mini-cut before the JSF cruise. Three weeks is nothing. In the past I’ve gone months without a cheat meal, so doing this won’t be much of a challenge once I hit my stride.

Yesterday I decided to do afternoon HIIT cardio. The cardio workout was just 16 minutes long (30 maximum/45 active recovery), but I truly put everything I had into my maximum effort intervals. I got my heart rate up to 192 several times, and after just 16 minutes I was so sweaty that it looked as if I’d just climbed out of a swimming pool. It was quite a workout! After just a week back in the gym I can tell that my cardiovascular conditioning is already starting to improve. Next week I’ll slightly reduce the overall cardio workout time to 14 minutes, but I’ll increase the difficulty by changing the intervals to 45 max/45 recovery).

This morning I’m going to mix it up a bit and do a 45-minute LISS session. Tomorrow it’s back in the weight room to work my back and biceps. I get to increase the weight this week to roughly 65%-70% of my usual working weights.

I’m going to go get my cardio done, and then I’ve got some yard work to do. Enjoy your Sunday!
