The effects of alcohol on fat loss.

My fat loss has completely stalled out, and I’ve been 100% perfect with my diet, training and cardio. There’s no way I need to drop my calories any more, as they are already quite low. I know what the problem is: alcohol. For the past few weeks I’ve been drinking vodka several times per week (on non-training days) and there’s little doubt in my mind that the alcohol is grinding my fat loss to a stop (not to mention it’s terrible for me). I’m going to completely stop drinking from now until the cruise, and not change anything else about my fat loss program. I’ll bet anything this one change will allow me to resume losing fat (I suspect that I’m between 8% and 9% body fat right now).

Over the years I’ve seen a lot of questions on the forum about alcohol consumption and how it affects our ability to lose fat and/or gain muscle. The short of the long is that when you chose to imbibe your body stops burning fat and building muscle while it is dealing with the alcohol. How much and how often you drink is, of course, entirely up to you, but don’t try and rationalize or sugarcoat the effects.

Lisa’s back from her business trip. We don’t have any chores to do today, so it looks like a fun movie day is in store (after my cardio, of course!) I hope you enjoy your Sunday, too!
