Earlier this week I briefly mentioned how pleased I have been with my choice to stop my cut and start maintaining. I didn’t really go into much detail, so this morning I’d like to expand a bit on how things have been going…

My weight has remained steady (I will still check my body fat and tape measurements every few weeks, of course), my workouts have been excellent, my energy levels have been high, my mood has been positive and upbeat (despite being faced with unemployment) and my cravings for junk food have completely disappeared. It’s been really cool not counting calories or feeling like I MUST eat this or that. I think the reason I was constantly craving junk food while I was cutting is because there was absolutely no variety in my diet. It’s been awesome to not feel those horrible cravings, and eating healthy has never seemed more effortless. Could it be that I’ve finally found what it is that I need to be successful with moderation? I guess time will tell, but so far I feel that I’ve been quite successful.

Because I’ve had to face the very real possibility that I may soon lose the single largest source of our household income, I’ve taken a hard look at our current expenditures and started making some serious cuts. Basically I’m eliminating just about everything in my life that costs money and is not critical to my survival (well, I’m keeping cable TV and Netflix… for now). Along those lines, I’ve decided to eliminate ALL supplements except for a daily multivitamin and Nitrean protein powder (which is quite economical as meals go). So, no more EFAs, BCAAs, EAAs, Glucosamine, Waxy Maize, Glutamine, Creatine… nothing. I believe supplements – especially those I just mentioned – are useful adjuncts to a healthy diet and solid training program, but they are not essential.

Well, assuming things don’t go haywire at work today, it looks like I may be able to take the afternoon off. I’m going to use that time to work on some JSF stuff. I’ve got some exciting projects in the works, and I think you guys are going to enjoy the changes that are coming. Some of the projects are large scale and will take months to develop and deploy, but other “mini-projects” will be rolled out sooner. Stay tuned!
