Changing attitudes…

I mentioned earlier this week that I’m going to be starting a cut at the beginning of Janauary. For my weight training I’m thinking about doing a 3-day split, something like Monday: Legs, Wednesday: Chest/Triceps/Shoulders, Friday: Back/Biceps/Traps. Instead of doing formal cardio, I’d like to try just getting out and riding at least 3 days per week. A mix of long trips at a moderate pace (kind of LISS-like), and some trail riding (more like HIIT) would be very effective, and about 100 times more enjoyable than sitting on a stationary bike in my gym. I’ve been doing some research, and I had no idea how many incredible trails (both paved and off-road) there are around here. The idea of getting out and exploring all these new places is very apealing to me.

For the most part my diet and training since 2003 has been centered around aethetics and, of course, health. Lately my ideas about fitness, eating healthy, staying in shape and weight training have slowly started to change. I’ve found myself caring far less about being huge, or having ripped abs all the time. Sure, I still want to look good, but after all these years of working out purely for aestics I find that it’s becoming very boring. Sometimes I feel like I’m just chasing my tail. I think these new bikes made something I’ve had in the back of my mind for awhile just sort of click into place. I love lifting weights, but there’s so much more I could be doing! I’m healthy, strong and in fantastic shape. I always loved athletic activities when I was younger, and so sitting on a stationary bike in an empty gym when I could be out having fun seems stupid. I may have a stationary recumbant bike for sale sometime soon. 🙂

I’d better get to work, I’ve got lots to accomplish today. Have a good one!
