Fun solo ride yesterday; I found the river; December “100 Challenge”.

I hope everyone had a very good weekend! Lisa left for her cruise yesterday morning, and I didn’t really have any specific plans for the day. I didn’t feel like sitting around the house alone, so I decided to load up my bike and head over to the Seminole-Wekiva trail for a solo run. I wound up doing 29 miles, and I pushed the pace pretty good. My average speed to the halfway point was 15 MPH, and average for the entire 29 mile trip was 13.7 MPH (which included a couple miles of off-road trails). Unfortunately there are a few stops where the trail crosses busy intersections, so my average speed was negatively impacted by those stops.

Once I got to the Markham Trailhead (about 14 miles into the ride), I started thinking about that darn river again (you may recall that on November 7th Lisa and I got lost trying to find it). I met a couple of nice women at the trailhead, and I asked them if they knew where the trail was that ran down to the Wekiva river. They told me about a hidden dirt trail that runs behind some trees along the north side of Markham road. This trail, they told me, would eventually intersect with another trail that would take me straight down to the river!

Lisa was nervous about me riding solo (which I think is silly), and before she left she made me promise that I would not go into the forest trying to find the river. Good thing I had my fingers crossed. Seriously, I just had to go. I had the directional information I needed from the two women I met, so the way I look at it I wasn’t trying to find the river anymore, I was merely going to it. Is that too much of a stretch? 🙂

For the rest of the story and a few pictures checkout yesterday’s entry to my photo journal. Unfortunately Lisa took the better of our two cameras with her on the cruise, so I have no video this time. I’m still trying to justify purchasing an HD helmet camera, which is why I’m trying to sell my camcorder rig. I’ve reduced the asking price to $200.00, plus I’ll throw in a free 1-year Platinum Membership to the JSF Forums and BodyShop™. As an added bonus, I’ll probably have brilliant High-Definition footage of me wrecking horribly at Santos.

I’ve opened the December 2009 “100 Challenge” for entry. Details are immediately below this update.
