It was wonderful hearing from so many of you in response to the second half of yesterday’s update! I received quite a few awesome similar stories and words of encouragement to keep on doing what I do. Thanks!
I also heard from one gentleman who, as he put it, “…would have rode by and sneered, too.” This person told me that he is in upper management for a large corporation, works very long hours and recently “celebrated his 50th birthday with a sigh”. He told me that yesterday’s update stirred up some difficult feelings: he said he felt the best years of his life were gone. He said looking at the pictures of me goofing around on my bike made him feel bitter at first, then sad. I really appreciated his honesty.
I’m not a “self-help guru”, and I’ve never pretended to be. In fact I don’t even like most of those guys very much. What I can tell you is that I was miserable when I sat around smoking weed, drinking and eating like crap. Back then I was afraid to try anything new, and my life was boring and monotonous because I’d pretty much given up. All that changed when I began to eat right and exercise. When you’re physically active, drug-free and healthy it opens up all kinds of doors! My advice is pretty simple: eat healthy, do something fun and physically active every day and don’t ever be afraid to try the things you think you will enjoy. I don’t know if that’s good advice or not, but I do know that it works for me.
