Awesome first day!

The first day of my cut went extremely well! I ate all six of my meals on time, and really dug deep for an incredible leg workout.

As I mentioned yesterday, my weight training will be designed with two goals in mind: strength and muscle endurance. I’ve decided to do something I learned from Mastover, and alternate my training style each week between “core” and “intensity”.

The intensity workouts will be high volume workouts with very little rest between sets. These workouts are going to be, well, intense! Obviously these workouts are going to be designed to improve my muscle endurance, overall cardio and stamina.

The “core” workouts are all about big compound lifts, heavy weights and strength.

I decided that for the first week of my cut to going to go with a series of “intensity” workouts. Yesterday was leg day, and oh was it intense! Those of you who’ve done SGX will recognize this workout, and will probably feel queasy just reading it. 😆

4×20 Leg extensions
4×20 Lying leg curls
4×20 Squats
4×20 1-Leg DB calf extensions

The key to this workout is using enough weight so that you can barely get the last few reps up. Also, rest intervals are very short: 60 seconds between sets, 2 minutes between exercises. Let me tell you, after pre-exhausting with the extensions and leg curls, those squats are insane – especially after a set or two. The 60 seconds between the squat sets feels more like 6 seconds.

I’m already very sore this morning, and that soreness is going to be worse than usual because I took last week off from training.

Today is a cardio day, and I think I’m going to do about 45-minutes of LISS cardio. I have not decided if I’m going to do it indoors or take the bike out, but I’d better figure it out quick because I need to get to work in like an hour.

I hope you all had similar success on what, for many of us, was the first day of a new fitness program. Take it one day at a time and never give up! You can do it!
