Another victory over intense cravings – how I did it.

Last night I was having the most intense barbecue pork cravings I think I’ve ever had in my life. I’m serious, the desire was ricocheting around inside my head like a prickly ball of evil. These cravings have happened to me a couple of times over the past few weeks, and for the exact same food. Last night was easily the worst of it, though.

Situations like last night are where my “all or nothing” approach becomes one of my most powerful fat loss tools. I thought about the fact that I’d almost reached the seven week mark without a single cheat meal, and no way was I going to squander all the momentum I’d worked so hard to build! That was huge. I also thought about the excellent progress I’d made so far. I thought about my goal, and how good it would feel when I reached it. Finally, I reminded myself that the situation I was in is the sort of situation that separates the people who succeed from those who don’t.

Getting past those cravings last night was a fairly tough hurdle in some ways, but it really just boiled down to one thing: making a choice. When I woke up this morning I felt fantastic for making the correct one.

If you’re a competitive person (like I am), situations like the one I just described are best viewed as challenges. I don’t like losing, and giving in last night would have been exactly that.
