Progress; Today’s “core” workout; Dealing with elbow pain.
This morning I’m down to a 2010 cutting low scale weight of 190.4 pounds. Scale weight is not nearly important as body fat percentage and tape measurements, but the number on the scale does have to move down when cutting (unless you’re somehow also adding lean mass, which I’m not). So it’s nice to see a little progress after the ~10 day stall I encountered. We’ll see if the trend continues. This Sunday I’ll be shaking things up a bit if I’m not satisfied with my progress.
This week I’m doing “core” workouts (very heavy, low volume strength training). Today is my chest/delts/triceps workout, and here’s what I’ll be doing:
3 x 4-6 Barbell bench press (+ 5 warmup/acclimation sets: 1×20, 1×10, 1×6, 1×2, 1×1)
3 x 6-8 Weighted chest dips
3 x 6 Ez-bar French curls
3 x 4-6 Standing barbell overhead presses
3 x 6-8 Seated Arnold Presses
Sometimes when doing the EZ-bar french curls using very heavy weight I experience pain in my elbows. This seems to happen more when I do the lying variation of this exercise. For some reason when I do the standing version the elbow pain is very rare. I’ve found that taking an Aleve (naproxin, which is a NSAID) about an hour before my workout completely eliminates this pain, but I don’t like take taking naproxin because I’ve read that it has a negative effect on protein synthesis. Still, sometimes I don’t have a choice if I want to get a good workout in. That stuff really works.
