Glutamine trick; Today’s HIIT cardio workout; Loki to the vet.

Yesterday’s workout (chest/delts/triceps) started off well, but about halfway through I hit a wall. I was feeling pretty good when all all of a sudden I felt weak and tired. I took a quick break and put three scoops of Beverly Glutamine Select along with some water and ice in the blender and made a slushy. This is a trick Mastover taught me back in 2007 when I was cutting down to 6% body fat. It’s amazing how quickly and how well this little trick can work: within 5 minutes I no longer felt weak, and I had a fairly strong finish to my workout.

Today is a cardio day, and I’ll be doing 18 minutes of HIIT on the recumbent bike. This workout will consist of a 2-minute warm-up followed by intervals of 45 seconds all out (100% effort)/30 seconds active recovery. These HIIT cardio workouts are not just great for fat loss, they make a huge difference when I’m out on the trails or doing intense weight training. My maximum heart rate is 193 BPM, and when I’m going all-out my goal is to hit that number. According to the “220 – age” formula my maximum heart rate should be 179 BPM, so don’t limit yourself based on that. It’s just meant to be a general estimate.

I’m taking Loki to the vet today for his annual checkup. I can’t believe that old boy is almost 15 now! He can still run up the stairs faster than I can, especially when we’re going up to the theater to watch a movie (popcorn is his favorite food). I hope his checkup goes well. He’s been coughing a lot lately, and I’m a little worried.

I’d better get some breakfast going. Thanks for reading!
