Productive day in the yard, but back is hurting; Taking a week off from training.

I decided to take yesterday off from work, and I spent all day working in the yard. It was a beautiful (but windy) day, and I accomplished a tremendous amount of work. All the plants and palms have been trimmed, I fertilized everything (this is a HUGE job and takes about 4 hours to complete) and Lisa planted dozens of gerbera daisies, dahlias and verbena. I also replaced the two cassia plants on the north side of the house with two-tiered bougainvillea topiaries. Now all that remains to be done is mulch, but that’s an all-day job and will have to wait a couple weeks.

Unfortunately I screwed up my already tender back (you may recall that I pulled a muscle while squatting recently). I think it happened on Sunday. The wind was blowing so hard that it literally ripped the corner stop sign from its post and blew over over a giant rock we have in one of our gardens. I had to deadlift the rock back up, and I’m telling you that thing weighs well over 300 pounds. I didn’t realize how heavy the rock was, and I shouldn’t have lifted it without warming up. Anyway, on top of that yesterday I spent so much time bending over and carrying heavy bags of fertilizer around that by the end of the day my lower back was killing me.

So I didn’t do my leg workout yesterday afternoon, and this morning my back is really hurting. It’s been like 3 months since I’ve taken a week off from training, so I think this is a really good time for a break. I’m going to take this week 100% off from training, including cardio. Of course I’ll still be eating my usual cutting diet.

I’ve got some work to catch up on, so I’d better finish this up and get on it. I hope you all have a good day!
