Yesterday’s workout; High sodium meal, poor sleep; Mulch project this weekend.

Yesterday’s leg workout was awesome! After taking a week off I was dying to start lifting again, and I really tore into my workout. As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog entry, I decided to switch from squats to leg press so that my lower back can fully recover from the strain. While the leg press is a good exercise, it just isn’t the same as squats. As soon as I’m able I’m going to go back to squatting. In the meantime, I threw in a few sets of lunges to hit my glutes. After I take a week off I’m always extra sore when I resume my training. I can already tell this is going to be a painful week, but in a good way.

Last night for PWO (Post Work Out) meal #2 I made one of my favorite meals, Asian Stir Fry. This meal has a fair amount of sodium in it as it is, but last night I added extra soy sauce. I generally retain a little water after this meal anyway, but the extra soy sauce made it even worse than usual. The reason I mention this is that last night while I slept I was slightly restless, thirsty and warm. These effects were only about 10% of what I often experience after a heavy, salty cheat meal. Still, it was enough of a reminder of how bad I often sleep after a cheat that the idea of anything other than clean foods sounds disgusting this morning. I’m pretty sure I won’t have problems with cravings this week! It’s been almost 3 months since I’ve had anything other than clean, natural foods and I feel fantastic!

This is a cardio day, and I think I’m going to go get a simple 45 minutes LISS session in on the recumbent bike. Speaking of cardio, this weekend Lisa and I will be doing our annual spring mulching project. With all the gardens we have to mulch, this difficult work always take a full day. I think we’re going to need to spread around 12 yards of mulch this year. Needless to say, that will be my cardio session for Saturday!
