Sunday progress report: Week #12 complete, very surprising results!

Week #12 of my 2010 cut is now complete, and I’ve recorded some rather unexpected results for this week. Let’s take a look!

My scale weight this morning is 188.6 pounds, which means I actually gained .4 pounds over the past week. That means I’ve now lost a total of 17.8 pounds since the start of my cut. Of course scale weight alone is meaningless, so let’s take a look at the rest of the data…

My body fat reading this morning is 10.1% (as measured by the Fat Track PRO Digital Body Fat Calipers). That’s a .2% drop from last week’s reading of 10.3%, and a 5.4% drop from my 2010 cut starting body fat percentage of 15.5%.

Over the past week I’ve lost .33 pounds of fat and gained .73 pounds of lean mass. We took the body fat reading 3 times, and I’m positive that the results are correct. Yes, I actually lost fat and gained lean mass over the past week! I’ll discuss why I think that happened a little further down.

My total losses since the start of my cut now stand at 12.94 pounds of fat, and 4.86 pounds of lean mass.

My tape measurements (as measured by the MyoTape) support my body fat reading: this past week I lost a quarter-inch from my waist, a quarter-inch from my hips and a quarter-inch from my thighs. All the rest of my measurements held steady. My 2010 cut total measurement changes are as follows: 3.5 inches off my waist, 2.75 inches from my hips, 2.0 inches from my thighs and a half-inch from my chest.

I have to admit that even as hard as I’ve been working, I really didn’t expect to gain lean mass and lose fat at the same time. In fact, this is the first time that has happened during this cut. That I’m so deep into the cut (week 12) makes these results all the more unexpected. So, how did it happen? I’ve been thinking about that, and there really can only be one explanation: steroids. Ha, I got jokes on a Sunday morning! Seriously, the only change I made is that I’ve added BCAAs (Xtend) and Glutamine to my diet. I am 100% convinced that this is not a coincidence. Very worthwhile supplements while cutting, IMO.

Needless to say I’m very happy with this week’s progress. This cut is taking a little longer than I thought it would, but I don’t mind. On a certain level I’m really enjoying it. I like the challenge, and I feel great. I figure 4 more weeks should get me to my goal of 8% body fat.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on yesterday’s update. It was one of those updates where I sat down with nothing in particular to say and just started typing. Those words came straight from my heart, and I really do want everyone reading this to succeed and improve their lives. It takes a lot of hard work, but you’ll never be the same. Trust me on that one.
