Yesterday’s workout (pecs/triceps/delts) continued my 3 week streak of excellent training sessions. I increased weight and/or reps on every single exercise, my energy levels were high and my intensity was very good. The week off from training that I took almost three weeks ago turned out to be a very wise decision. Ever since that break my workouts have been awesome, I’ve had very few cravings for junk food and motivation has been off the charts.

I took a new progress picture yesterday and, frankly, it’s not very impressive. I didn’t want to upload the picture, but I took the photo, it’s where I’m at right now and so it gets posted. Despite all my rhetoric about how I’m moving away from training for aesthetics and more towards performance, seeing myself less cut and less muscular than I’ve been in the past bugs the hell out of me. It’s my ego; I’m just so darn competitive with myself that any sort of “backslide” just eats at me like a cancer. As I said in my journal, I think another month of cutting will make a big difference in my abs, but the muscle I’ve lost isn’t coming back unless I bulk again. A forum member wrote to me last week after I mussed that I might do another bulk. This member said he’d bet anything I would definitely bulk again. Yeah, I wouldn’t take that bet. The smart money is definitely on a fall/winter bulk.

Moving on to a little JSF BodyShop™ news… The public launch of BodyShop on Monday has gone amazingly well! Over 600 of you have already created accounts and are using our new, 100% free sister site to set goals, track your stats and progress, log your food intake and workouts, interact and stay motivated. If you missed Monday’s blog update, please go give it a quick read. There’s lots of great information on how you can get started using JSF BodyShop™ to help make your fitness goals a reality! Also, continue reading Tuesday and Wednesday’s blog updates for some helpful hints that will allow you to get the most out of BodyShop.

You may have noticed that my signature on the forums contains a BodyShop progress banner:

BodyShop Banner

This progress banner is very easy to add to your own JSF Forum signature, or even your web site. The cool thing about this banner is that it’s automatically updated in real time! When you change a stat or goal on BodyShop, the banner is instantly updated with the new data. If you’d like to add a BodyShop progress banner to your signature or web site, simply look for the “Link Here” link in the control strip just above your Profile picture on your BodyShop main portal page. Click that link and you’ll find the HTML code (for use on web sites) and the vBulletin code (for use on forums like the JSF Forums). All you need to do is copy that code and paste it into your signature or web site and you’re done!

Today is a cardio day for me, and I’ve decided to do an 18-minute HIIT cardio session this afternoon. This is going to be a pretty demanding workout, but the payoff (both in fat loss and cardiovascular endurance) will be worth every second of pain.

Train hard, stay positive and stay focused on your goals – summer will be here before you know it!
