Yesterday closed out week #14 of my current cutting program, and my fat loss progress is coming along quite well. Because I feel the body fat caliper readings I’ve been getting are a bit off (on the low side), I made a slight change to my goal and have decided to cut down to 7% body fat (according to the caliper) instead of 8%. You can read more about that change in yesterday’s blog entry if you like.
My current caliper reading (as of yesterday) is 9% body fat with a body weight of 184.6 pounds. That’s 16.61 pounds of fat and 167.99 pounds of lean mass. I should hit my goal of 7% body fat after just 4 more pounds of fat loss. I expect my total body weight will be right around 180 pounds when I hit my goal, and this should take me no more than 3 weeks.
After more than three months of clean eating and no cheat meals you’d think I’d be dying for some junk food. Interestingly enough, that is not at all the case. I definitely had my share of cravings along the way, but around 3 or 4 weeks ago the desire for junk food just vanished. Being this close to my goal has me feeling really good about things: just a few more weeks and I’ll be able to relax and enjoy the entire summer!
Once I reach my goal I’m going to relax my diet a bit, but I want to maintain single-digit body fat percentages all summer long. I don’t think that’s going to be a problem, as I’ll be very active and will limit myself to 2 cheat meals per week. I plan to do a lot of biking this summer, and of course I’ll be weight training at least 3 times per week.
While I have not decided on my plans for the fall, I have been thinking about another bulk. Obviously 180 pounds is very light for me, and I lost a fair amount of muscle before I started this cut (sloppy diet, lots of long bike rides). Thanks to muscle memory I know I could put the 10-15 pounds of muscle I lost back on with just 3 or 4 months of hardcore training and big eating. We’ll see.
