I’m back from my 10 days off, and I’m feeling fully rested and recharged! I had a lot of fun while I took a break from my usual routines, but I’m 100% ready to get back to work and training.
While I was off I did lots of bike riding, watched a bunch of movies, did some projects around the house, messed around in the garden, played with my new Evo 4G phone (the phone is absolutely incredible) and I went off on a couple of geocaching adventures using the Evo as a GPS device. I’d never done any geocaching before, but I’d heard it was a lot of fun so I thought I’d give it a try. I can see how it can be addictive because it takes you places you might otherwise never go. I think I’ll continue to geocache because it seems like a natural compliment to my biking adventures.
I said before my vacation started that I was not going to worry about my diet and I was not going to train. My diet was, in fact, pretty terrible. Breakfast wasn’t too bad (egg whites, a bagel and orange juice on most mornings), but things got pretty sloppy from there. I had popcorn (of course), pizza, pork barbecue, garlic bread, cheese burgers with bacon, french fries, homemade vanilla ice cream… This past Saturday night I was feeling so bloated and just “blah” from all the junk food that I was craving chicken breasts and rice, so that’s what I had. I definitely put on a few pounds of fat over the past week. I’m going to pound back lots of water today and try to get rid of some of the bloat. I’ll take a full set of measurements tomorrow and see where I’m at. I’m probably going to do a two week mini-cut. The thought of junk food sounds horrible right now. I’m definitely ready to get back to my clean diet!
While I enjoyed the week off from training, I am amped to get back in the gym today. Today is leg day, and I think I’m going to do a pretty high volume workout. I want to crawl out of the gym and spend the rest of the week hobbling around on my toasted wheels.
While I was off I spent some time thinking about whether or not I want to do a bulk this fall. While I have not yet reached a decision, I am definitely leaning towards doing the bulk. I’m still very lean, and I have a feeling with 3 months of hard work and a ultra-clean diet I could put back on a lot of the size I’ve lost since my 2008 bulk. I know, I know… I go back and forth on this. Part of me doesn’t care if I’m as big as I once was, but the competitive side of me is very much still there. Also, I really enjoy bulking. It’s fun for me to give myself 100% to a goal. I like challenging myself to have no missed workouts and no missed meals for a set period of time, and to maintain laser-like focus on a goal. I’ll continue to mull it over, but don’t be surprised if I start a bulk in September or October.
I’ve got a lot of catching up to do at work this week, so I’m going to sign off for now. I’ve missed writing my daily blog – it’s great to be back!
