How hot is it? I lost over 7 pounds of water yesterday morning; Stir fry mods.

It never did rain yesterday, so I was able to go for a long morning bike ride followed by a few hours of yard work. I got the back yard mowed, edged and trimmed, I trimmed the hedges and I painted off the areas around the pond where the plant beds will go. The heat was bad enough, but with all the rain we’ve been getting it felt like a sauna out there. I knew I was sweating more than usual, and so I was very careful to drink lots of water. When I came in to get ready for work I stepped on the scale after my shower and did a double-take: I was down 7.2 pounds from my morning weigh-in of 180.2 pounds! I couldn’t believe it – 173 pounds! I have not been that light in forever. In fact, I was sure the scale malfunctioned or something, but a second check confirmed it. That’s some crazy water loss! I pounded the water down all day long, and for dinner I made a stir fry (which is pretty high in sodium and usually causes me to retain water). Despite all that, this morning I’m still down more than 3 pounds. I’ve lived in Florida more than 20 years, and this summer has seemed hotter than any other I’ve experienced here.

So, about that stir fry I made last night. I prepared my usual stir fry (here’s the easy recipe), but I substituted shrimp for the chicken, added some toasted almonds, tossed in some water chestnuts and used white onion instead of red onion. I love modifying the base recipe and trying little tweaks each time I make it. Using shrimp instead of chicken for the protein was a very nice change. It was delicious! While stir fries can be made in a large frying pan, I highly recommend a wok. My mom gave me a wok for my birthday about a year ago, and I absolutely love it! I could never go back to a frying pan.

I’ve got a lot of work to do today, but at least it’s Friday! I’m looking forward to a good workout, followed by a cheat meal: pork barbecue. I can’t wait!
