I didn’t think yesterday’s workout would be as tough as it was. Turns out getting all that sod removed, bagged and taken to the curb was a much more difficult project than I anticipated! After I did all that, I still had to grade the land and that took a pretty fair amount of time and effort, too.

I think I’ve said “The worst is behind me” like 4 times so far on the pond project. I’ve got to stop doing that, because I’m always wrong.

It took 16 contractor cleanup bags to hold the sod I removed. Just in case my neighbors don't already think I'm weird enough, I took a picture of my garbage.

I sent the aerial shot to my landscape designer so he could get a sense of what he’s dealing with before he comes out for a preliminary visit. His remark was, “The beds need to be bigger, especially in the back so it will be more dramatic.” So I guess I have some more sod clearing work ahead! Also, I’m not happy with the squared off shape of the left side of the bed, so I want to shape that a little bit. I think my landscape designer is coming by today, so I’ll have him paint off whatever adjustments he wants and I’ll dig everything out before he deliverers the plants and palms. This will be the third major project this designer has done for me, and I’m always amazed with his work. This lush, tropical pond setting is different from the other projects, so I’m very excited to see what he comes up with.

While I’m outside working I’m obviously always very dirty and sweaty. The last thing I feel like doing is cleaning up just to come inside and prepare a meal. As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of AtLarge’s Novus Protein Bars, and they have proven to be invaluable while working on this project. The bars taste incredible (my personal favorite flavor is Mint Cookie), and each bar has a whopping 36g of protein. I also take Novus bars on long bike rides because they are compact and surprisingly filling. At less than 2 bucks per bar, they are a very inexpensive way to get in a quick meal on the go. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed!

I’ve got a lot of work to catch up on today, so I’d better get started. Oh, today is your last change to register for the September 2010 “100 Challenge”. Details are just below…
