Yesterday’s workout (more photos); Weekend plans.

The long holiday weekend is finally here! I’ve got some yard work and some house cleaning to do, but apart from that I’m going to relax and take some time off this weekend.
Yesterday’s workout was removing all the sod I dug up from the expanded bed around the pond, bagging it and then grading the dirt. I was surprised by how much sod I needed to remove for the revision: I filled 13 contractor bags, bringing the grand total to 29. We are now ready for the plants and palms! Here are a couple of pictures:
The landscaping is obviously going to make a massive difference in the overall look and feel out there, and I’m very excited about it. My landscape designer said that the dirt berm will erode, even with plants on it, and that I need to build the whole thing up with rocks. So I guess I have that to do, too. This project has been fun, challenging and educational – and I’d do it again in a heartbeat – but at this point I’m really looking forward to wrapping it up!
I’ve got a lot of yard work to do this morning, so I’m going to go jump on that before it gets too hot out there. Actually it’s already too hot out there. The funny thing is my normal mowing/edging/trimming/weeding routine seems like a walk in the park compared to the labor I’ve been putting in on the pond and the landscaping! So this morning won’t be too bad at all by comparison. I’m going to make one of my favorite quick breakfasts (blend 2 scoops of Vanilla Nitrean, 1/2 cup of raw oats, 15 Oz of cold water and 7 ice cubes) and get started. I hope you enjoy your Saturday!
