Beautiful, cool morning; Vacation approved.

When I woke up this morning I went out back expecting to step into the usual sauna-like Florida heat. Instead I was greeted with a pleasantly cool, dry breeze that instantly brought a smile to my face. This morning’s temperature is below 70 degrees (F) for the first time in many months, and I am loving it! I think the high today is only going to reach 90 degrees, and the humidity is way down. Today is a weight training day, but I’m going for a bike ride this morning, too. I can’t stay inside on the first truly nice morning in ages!

I was approved for my early October vacation, so there will be no blog updates from October 2 through October 10. As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog I am badly in need of a week off from training, so I won’t be training during my week off. When I return from my vacation I’ll resume training and increase my caloric intake a small amount – perhaps 300 calories per day. The idea is to slowly add strength and muscle over the fall and winter months, but it will be far from an all-out bulk. While the results will not be at all dramatic compared to a true bulking phase, fat gains should be kept to an absolute minimum. Also, I won’t be obsessing about never missing a meal, counting every calorie or never missing a workout. I love eating right and training, but I’ve enjoyed those things even more now that they’ve become an important part of my life rather than the absolute focus of it.

I’m going to get outside now and enjoy this awesome weather!
