Pond landscaping going in today; Lackluster workouts; Today’s cardio.

I’m excited because this afternoon the landscaping around the pond is going in! I got up extra early this morning in order to get a jump on my work for the day because I want to be out back while the landscaping crew is working. After all the work I’ve put into this project, it feels very satisfying to know that Phase III will be completed today! About all that remains to be done now… [Read more]

Wrist feeling great; Old shoulder injury musings; Today’s workout.

I did a quick inventory of the Meloxicam anti-inflammatory pills that my doctor prescribed for my wrist pain, and I have about a two month supply remaining. I forgot that Lisa had about 30 leftover Meloxicams that her doctor prescribed for a pulled back muscle, so I took those first. My wrist pain is still completely gone. Yesterday I did my chest/delts/triceps workout and nothing bothered me – not even dumbbell laterals! I didn’t even… [Read more]

Good ride yesterday, many flying insects; Discovered awesome new hot sauce!

I had a very good bike ride yesterday morning. I took my bike back into the scrub land, and the weeds were ridiculously high – like more than six feet high. Some places would have been almost impassible by bike, but it rained on Monday and the sugar sand was not quite as soft as usual; this allowed me to maintain enough speed to plow my way through. The flying insects were a whole other… [Read more]

Fun labor day weekend; Today’s cardio; The jeans test; Fall diet plans.

I had a fantastic labor day weekend! I got all my yard work and chores out of the way early, and was able to relax the rest of the time. I cooked out on the grill Sunday night, and yesterday we all went out for Mexican food. I’ve been craving fajitas for a long time, and they did not disappoint! With all the cardio in the form of outdoor projects that I’ve been doing over… [Read more]

Labor day plans – no training.

Just a quick post today – we’ve got house guests and everyone is waking up now. The girls are going shopping and we guys are going to hang back and watch stuff blow up real good. Last night no one felt like going out to eat, so I cooked some tasty burgers on the grill for everyone. Today I’m not cooking, so we’re all going to meet up somewhere for lunch. After an quick poll… [Read more]

Tadpole watching all morning; Interesting pond transformation.

I’m running way behind this morning, and it’s my own fault! We’ve got family coming over in a little while, and I’ve got so much to do before they arrive… yet I’ve been outside all morning watching the toad tadpoles. I need to back up a bit before I continue with this story… A day or so after the tadpoles appeared (14 days ago), the pond started to become very murky. Our pond was so… [Read more]

Yesterday’s workout (more photos); Weekend plans.

The long holiday weekend is finally here! I’ve got some yard work and some house cleaning to do, but apart from that I’m going to relax and take some time off this weekend. Yesterday’s workout was removing all the sod I dug up from the expanded bed around the pond, bagging it and then grading the dirt. I was surprised by how much sod I needed to remove for the revision: I filled 13 contractor… [Read more]

Decision on fall bulk; Wrist pain update; Yesterday’s workout (photo).

The summer sure seemed to fly by. I still can’t believe it’s already September! I’ve been giving the notion of another fall/winter bulking phase a fair amount of thought and have decided that, at least for now, that is not something I’m interested in doing. What I’d like to do instead of a formal bulk is tighten up my diet a bit and up my calories slightly. The idea of slowly adding muscle instead of… [Read more]

Modification to Szechwan Shrimp recipe; Pond landscaping update.

Yesterday was a long day at work, but I did manage to squeeze in a good chest/delts/triceps workout in the late afternoon. For PWO meal #2 I made a little tweak to one of my favorite recipes, Szechwan Shrimp. The recipe itself is, in my opinion, perfect (old family recipe), so all I did was change the protein from shrimp to chicken. I just cut up a couple of raw boneless, skinless chicken breasts and… [Read more]

Busy day ahead; September Transformation Spotlight: jbivens.

The first of the month is always an incredibly busy day for me, but today is going to be even more insane than usual. Looking at my task list for the day makes me want to crawl back in bed and hide under the covers. Since going back to sleep is not an option, I guess I’d better just start chipping away. I’m very much looking forward to the upcoming Labor Day weekend! For the… [Read more]
