GoPro mount rant; Found some awesome new video editing software.

I love my GoPro HD camera, but the mounts available for it (at least from a mountain biking standpoint) mostly suck. The vented helmet mount that comes with the camera is OK, but I don’t like riding around with a giant camera sitting on top of my head. So I bought the handlebar/seatpost mount kit, and that’s what I’ve been using for the past few months. The problem is the handlebar mount is not that… [Read more]

Deads this morning; GoPro mount and 60 FPS experiments.

Yesterday wound up being another fairly long and stressful day. I want to apologize for the unplanned outage that impacted the JSF family of web sites for most of yesterday morning. A quick reboot of the web server after a kernel upgrade wound up requiring a trip to the datacenter to correct. Once I got things running again (on the old kernel), I still had to figure out what went wrong. I tracked down and… [Read more]

Cateye Micro Wireless 10-Function Bicycle Computer

I love my Cateye CC-MC100W Micro Wireless 10-Function Bicycle Computer. If you do any biking at all, it’s well worth the 50 bucks!

Unexpected JSF web server downtime this morning; Bunny hops hurting shoulder.

I had to reboot the JSF web server this morning (ending a very respectable 638 day uptime!) This reboot resulted in some expected downtime while the filesystem was forced-checked, but also some unexpected downtime which required me to drive down town to correct. Sorry about that! I never did go for a bike ride yesterday morning. I made what I thought was going to be a quick phone call to resolve a VMWare licensing issue,… [Read more]

I woke up facing a difficult morning, instead I get to hit the trails!

I sure am glad I got my workout done first thing in the morning yesterday. Yesterday afternoon there was a computer/network emergency at work that required my full attention. I would have had no choice but to skip my afternoon workout (or, at best, postpone it). I’m definitely feeling the new AM workout schedule. It’s here to stay. That computer issue at work had me pretty frustrated last night, and I woke up this morning… [Read more]

A few new pictures; New AM workout time is staying.

I didn’t do much of a real bike ride yesterday, but I did get out in the driveway for a little over an hour to work on basics like bunny hops, track stands, riding skinnies, stoppies and balance. Much like when I was first learning proper form for weight training exercises, I always record my bike skill practice sessions. I find it invaluable to go back and review the video footage so I can watch… [Read more]

Legs are destroyed; So dry here; JSF servers will be moving.

I had another excellent AM workout yesterday! I started off by blasting my legs with 4 sets of high rep, moderate weight, short rest interval back squats. I was feeling great, so I decided to superset Bulgarian split squats with single leg DB calf raises (3 supersets). I finished off with 3 sets of stiff-leg deadlifts. My hamstrings and glutes are already sore this morning, and by tomorrow morning I’ll be wincing with every step…. [Read more]

Fun day on the trails with a fellow JSF member (one scary moment); AM training.

Yesterday was a fairly warm, but otherwise incredibly beautiful day. I decided to load up the bike and head over to the trails at Soldiers Creek for some fun in the dirt. I was excited about putting some of my new biking gear to the test, and I got to meet and ride with the April 2010 Transformation Spotlight of the Month recipient, forum member “Malnar” (Ian). Ian’s an experienced road biker, but this was… [Read more]

A couple of new pictures; The evolution of my transformation.

Yesterday evening I posted a couple of new photos in my media journal on the forums. Along with these photos I made a short comment about how my reasons for training and eating healthy have changed over the years. This morning I’d like to expand on that comment a bit… Almost everyone who is out of shape, overweight and unhappy about those things decides to make a transformation to improve his or her appearance, self-esteem… [Read more]

Thinking of working out in the morning again; Need to start a mini-cut.

Yesterday I decided to break from my usual afternoon workout time, and instead did my workout (back/traps/biceps) in the morning just about an hour after breakfast. It’s been a while since I’ve done a morning workout, and I really enjoyed it – so much so that I may start doing my workouts in the morning again. I seemed to have even more energy than usual, and the morning endorphin rush put me in a good… [Read more]
