I had another excellent AM workout yesterday! I started off by blasting my legs with 4 sets of high rep, moderate weight, short rest interval back squats. I was feeling great, so I decided to superset Bulgarian split squats with single leg DB calf raises (3 supersets). I finished off with 3 sets of stiff-leg deadlifts. My hamstrings and glutes are already sore this morning, and by tomorrow morning I’ll be wincing with every step.

We’ve not had so much as a single drop of rain in an entire month. Seriously, not even a sprinkle. The lack of rain has made even the best bike trails around here incredibly sandy in spots. The sugar sand out at Wekiwa has gone from bad to absolutely horrible. Soldiers Creek (where I rode this past weekend) is generally devoid of sugar sand, but even there it’s getting bad in a couple of places. Normally sugar sand is just an annoyance, but at Soldiers Creek there is now a bed of sugar sand just below a decent downhill. This past Sunday I saw someone go flying down that hill with his weight too far forward; when his heavy front tire hit the sand it instantly flipped the bike (thankfully the rider was OK). We sure could use some rain!

I’m not sure where I’ll be riding today. The one nice thing about sugar sand is that powering through it on a bike will whip ya into shape real quick! It’s definitely a more effective and far more interesting HIIT cardio workout than anything I’ve ever done on an indoor stationary bike. No watching the clock, no listening for interval beeps, no heart rate monitors, no staring at the walls… I can’t see myself ever going back to doing cardio in a gym.

IMPORTANT: A few weeks ago I mentioned that some changes are coming to JSF. One of those changes involved possibly moving the servers to a new data center. This move is definitely happening, and it will occur sometime before the middle of November. The new data center is located in New Jersey and is far superior to the data center where the servers are currently located. JSF, the JSF Forums, the JSF Amazon Mall, BodyShop and Mastover.com will all be down for approximately 24 hours while the servers are overnighted and deployed at the new data center. I’ll make another announcement as soon as I have the date finalized.
