It’s going to be a very active weekend, so last night I scarfed down the carbs: a huge plate of whole grain pasta with basil pesto, toasted pine nuts, fresh tomato and fresh grated Parmesan cheese. I’ve found that what I eat the night before a physically demanding day is just as important, if not more so, than what I eat the morning of the event. I remember when I swam competitively back in high school I’d always swim better if the night before a meet I ate something like pizza or pasta (which I usually did). I showed up for one swim meet so hung over from drinking beer with my friends the night before (ah, high school memories…) that I didn’t think I’d make it across the pool without puking. Surprisingly, I actually wound up swimming incredibly well that day (as a bonus I did not puke). While I certainly would never recommend that anyone use beer as a carb source (especially if you’re not of age – I was a rotten child), my point stands: carbs give you the energy to jump over buildings and flip cars and stuff.

I’m normally up by 6:00 AM, but this morning I slept in until 7:30! Ah, what do I care – tonight we set the clocks back an hour, so I’m going to be pretty much right on schedule again. Felt good to get a few extra Zs for a change. Loki normally wakes me up if I am not up by 6:00, but this morning he seemed quite happy to sleep a little longer, too. It might be because it’s cold (for Florida) outside: 44 degrees. The temperature inside our house is 67 degrees, which feels like heaven to me, but Lisa is absolutely freezing. She’s so weird.

I’m going to wait a couple hours for it to warm up outside and then I’m heading out to a yet-to-be determined trail to ride until my legs give out or I rupture my spleen, whichever comes first (I’d prefer the former). I hope to have some non-dull footage up later today.
