The new web site, which was in development for more than a year, was successfully launched on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1:45 PM EST. Less than a second after the new site was launched our very first visitor–hailing from Paris, France–arrived.

It’s been less than 48 hours since the launch, and already thousands upon thousands of members and guests from all over the globe have poured in. Each point on the below map (some cities are actually too close together in this world view to be represented by a single dot) represents a city from which this site has been accessed since it was relaunched (click to enlarge):

The launch has gone amazingly well! Problems have been few and far between, and relatively minor. I want to encourage everyone to provide feedback, both good and bad. If you’re having problems, find a broken link, can’t log in (forum username and password) have a comment or a suggestion or simply can’t find something, please post a comment and let us know about it. We can’t please everyone, but we can still try our best. 🙂

So here are a few helpful tips and thing you should know as you explore:

  • You can log in using your forum username and password at the top of the right sidebar.
  • Logging in is not required to access the site, but you must be logged in to comment or rate articles and posts.
  • Yep, you can now comment on pretty much everything! Comment on posts, articles, recipes, other users’ comments, pages and so on
  • You can also anonymously rate (using 1-10 stars) pretty much everything on the site.
  • You can give an anonymous “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” on other users’ comments.
  • Like an article, page, recipe, blog update or pretty much any other item on the site? You can easily share it or email it. Just look for the “Share the knowledge!” section at the bottom of almost every page on the site. Move your mouse over the icons to slide them open, pick which social networking site or email service you want to use and share away!
  • Videos and pictures open right in front of the page you’re on, and don’t take you away from what you’re looking at. Try it!
  • Check the top right corner of the site: you can subscribe to a feed of site updates, and there’s a separate feed for user comment on posts. You can also find us on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
  • Be sure to check out the brand new recipe section. This section has many of my favorite recipes from over the years, but it’s already expanding quickly thanks to our all-new Recipe Sharing feature! Got a favorite recipe you’d like to share? Send it in and contribute!
  • My Home Gym page, my Measurements & Stats page, my Food Logs page, my Training page, my Pictures page, my Video page, my FAQ and the About Me section have all been revised, expanded and cleaned up.
  • There is finally a search feature! The search bar can be found on the right side of the main navigation menu. You can search the entire site, including my 8+ years of blogs, for anything you want. The more keywords you use, the more specific the search. Give it a try!
  • My Favorite Things, which used to be located on the forum, is now part of the main site. Old items that are no longer available have been removed, the reviews have been updated and revised and everything has a clean, fresh look. This section will be updated far more frequently that it was before.
  • Wondering what sales our sponsors are running? What events (like the “100 Challenge”) are open for registration? The brand new Current Promotions section of the site (found in the gray sub-nav bar) will give you an up-to-the-minute view of any sales, promotions, special events or registrations that are running.
  • All of the JSF sites (this site, the forums and BodyShop) are 100% free to everyone, and always will be. We’re supported entirely by donations (membership upgrades) and advertising. You can quickly find information on upgrading your membership or advertising on any of the JSF sites in the gray sub-nav bar.
    • … and these are just some of the many new features you’ll find here on the all-new JSF. I encourage you to explore the site and have fun. I sincerely hope that you all enjoy the site and, most importantly, that it helps you succeed as your work towards you fitness goals. Thanks for being a part of the JSF family!

  1. Hi, John. Beautiful site; you should be proud.

One thing: is there a link to access only your blogs without clicking [more]? I doubt I’m the only one who finds this a bit off.

    Thanks for everything!

    • Thanks!

When you’re viewing a blog entry you can navigate to the next one or previous one (in its complete form) using the navigation controls above and below each entry. Also, if you go to the “Browse Blog Archives” section (from “BLOG” on the main navigation menu) clicking on an entry will take you to the full blog. Does that help?
