On the trails at Wekiwa.

On the trails at Wekiwa.

I came pretty close to hopping on my bike (my real bike) and hitting the trails for yesterday’s cardio, but I just didn’t have the time. I have not been out on the trails since the beginning of this month, and I miss it. The reason all my cardio training has been indoors is because I’ve been working 80-90 hours per week all month long. Aside from work, training and meal prep I’ve spent practically every waking moment this month working the new web site. It’s a lot easier to break away for 20 minutes of HIIT cardio on the recumbent bike in the next room than it is to hit the trails for 2 hours when you’re buried in work…

There is a positive side to my crazy schedule (aside from the fact that the new site was finally launched): I’ve been training extremely hard since the last time I went mountain biking, and I expect the next time I ride I’m really going to feel the difference out there. First of all, I’m about 10 pounds lighter than I was a month ago; that alone will make a nice difference! Of course HIIT training 4 times per week and intense weight training 3 times per week has improved my cardio significantly over the past month. Finally, my strength and muscle endurance have improved by leaps and bounds since my last ride. It’s amazing what kinds of changes are possible in a short time if you work hard.

The next time I ride I fully expect to break my speed record on one of my favorite cardio challenges: the ~2.7 mile technical run through the most remote section of forest at Wekiwa (which is just a part of the 26 mile route I take): Marker 18 to Camp Cozy (video: Part I and Part II. On December 3, 2010 I destroyed my best time of 23m 14s with a fantastic 22m08s run, and my goal is to eventually make that run in less than 20 minutes.

A couple of reminders before I wrap this up…

If you want to get in on Mastover’s January 15% Off Sale, time is quickly running out! If you are ready to put in the work, then I highly recommend Mastover’s services. Mastover provided my complete diet and training program when I dieted down from a post-bulk 236 pounds/19% body fat to a shredded 186.6 pounds/6% body fat. If you are willing to put in the effort, that there’s no question that you’ll reach your goal under Mastover’s wing.

Just a few more days to get registered for the February “100 Challenge”. These challenges are a great way to keep your fitness goals front and center. Registration is easy – keeping your 100 points is not.

Remember, you can always find any sales, promotions or registrations that are currently running in the brand new section Current Promotions.
