8+ years of workout logs

8+ years of workout logs

Yesterday I was cleaning up my gym and I decided to pull out my stack of workout logs and take a trip down memory lane. As I looked though the logs and read my notes, I was reminded of some of my best workouts from the past eight years. Some of my notes indicated that I was working out even though I didn’t feel like it: very busy with work, generally feeling lazy/unmotivated, headache, cold, not in the mood to lift, irritating injuries, aches… but I worked out anyway. There’s a heck of a lot of hard work and pain represented on those pages, and I felt a real sense of pride and accomplishment as I read through all those training logs. Looking through my old workout logs was nostalgic and motivating all at the same time. I’m really glad I have kept such detailed records of my workouts.

Spring is here in Central Florida and, as is always the case this time of year, I feel compelled to clean and organize. Something about the warmer weather just motivates me to take care of business. You know that great feeling you get when the whole house is spotless, or when all the yard work is done and everything looks amazing? It’s the same thing with our bodies. When you are hitting the weights hard, your diet is tight and you know you’re looking your best those things have a huge effect on your mood. Exercise is one of those things that you don’t always feel like doing, but you’re always glad that you did it when you’re done. Keep that in mind the next time you feel like skipping a workout. You know I’m right! 🙂

  1. That is a lot of logs John!!! Is there a template you use to write your workouts down on that you made on the computer? If so, I’d be interested in seeing what it looks like. Great job!

  2. Interesting after all these years that you still have those. I think that in itself is very inspiring. You’re right, I’ve never finished a workout and not feel good about it. I think that goes for everyone! I need to get my old butt in gear with some seriousness and maybe keeping logs again will spark something. Thanks!
