Grilled Feta Burgers & Dill Potatoes with Butter y’all. Feta Burger

Last night for dinner I decided to make a burger that I perfected over the course of about a month back in 2009: the Grilled Feta Burger! This burger is not something I’d eat while cutting, but it’s not really a true splurge meal, either. I grill 6-ounce 93% lean ground beef patties and serve them with raw spinach, raw red onions, spicy brown mustard, feta cheese and tomatoes all on a garlic-rubbed toasted Kaiser… [Read more]

Record heat yesterday kept me indoors; Ready to get back in the gym! What happened to spring?

It looks like we pretty much skipped right over the spring season here in Orlando. Yesterday afternoon I thought about going for a bike ride for my cardio, but when I stepped outside the heat was absolutely unbearable. Turns out we hit a record high of 95 degrees (F), with a “feels like” temperature of something like 150 billion. The humidity was off the charts, too. Sometimes I can handle that kind of heat, but… [Read more]

My AtLarge Nitrean+ review. Nitrean+

I received my most recent order from AtLarge Nutrition on Tuesday afternoon. I was especially excited because this order contained a tub of their brand new product, Nitrean+ (if you missed the product announcement with detailed information about Nitrean+, it can be found in last Friday’s blog). Obviously I can’t review the effects of increased whey isolate and the addition of the BCAA Leucine, but I can review the taste. First, as many of you… [Read more]

Biking photo trip; Dill salmon recipe needs work; New site update. "Blair Witch House"

For yesterday’s bike ride I decided to cram my camera into my (that thing is absolutely cavernous), and do sort of a biking slash photo adventure. I decided to head over to a nice lake near my house which has a wide biking and jogging track around the mile-long perimeter. I rarely see anyone there, and so it’s a fantastic place to ride fast with some incredible scenery. Along the way to the lake there… [Read more]

Weird not having sore legs on Tuesday; Going for a bike ride. All ready to ride!

I’ve grown quite accustomed to being greeted by leg soreness on Tuesday, and so it was somewhat strange to climb out of bed pain-free this morning. Well, I say “pain”, but I actually enjoy the feeling of being sore. I don’t find DOMS unpleasant at all. In fact, sometimes When I’m working out I’m able to get a few extra reps in because I tell myself, “Imagine how sore you’ll be if you can do… [Read more]

Time for a week off from training; New photo journal. Loki knows when to take a break!

I’m ready for a week off from weight training. In general I like to take a week off from lifting every 6-8 weeks, however–like most things related to fitness–this is not a hard and fast rule. I mainly go by feel, and right now I definitely feel like I could use a break. It’s been almost two months since I took time off from lifting, and even that was just a few days. The last… [Read more]

2011 maintenance weekly progress report: week #2. Myotape

Week #2 of my 2011 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. My goal is to complete 2011 without ever rising above 10% body fat. Here is this week’s progress report… My scale weight this morning (as measured by the ) is 173.2 pounds. That’s a .4 pound loss from my weight at the end of my 2011 cut, which was 173.6 pounds. My 7-point body fat reading this morning… [Read more]

Great workout yesterday; Lower back is still 100%; Ah… Saturday! My dumbbell rack

I had another excellent workout yesterday afternoon (back, biceps and traps). I’m still not deadlifting or squatting right now, and my back continues to feel absolutely 100% fine. Not only have I had no acute lower back pain, the constant dull ache that I have to deal with while working in the yard or mountain biking has not bothered me in weeks. I still have a bottle full of the NSAID that my doctor prescribed,… [Read more]

New AtLarge product: Nitrean+! Nitrean+

AtLarge Nutrition has just released a brand new product: Nitrean+! This product takes the already awesome Nitrean (the only protein powder I’ve used since early 2006) and then improves on it. Just like Nitrean, Nitrean+ incorporates a unique blend of 3 different fractions of whey (isolate, concentrate, and hydrolyzed), casein, and egg proteins, however Nitrean+ adds more whey isolate and 5g of the branched chain amino acid leucine. Nitrean+ also comes in a brand new… [Read more]

Update on the X9 Hybrid Strength Training System

I haven’t talked much about the upcoming X9 Hybrid Strength Training System in awhile, but that’s because I signed a NDA that prevents me from sharing any of the exciting details that I’ve been shown. Here’s what I can tell you… First of all, this machine is the most ambitious piece of fitness equipment I’ve ever seen. I’ve got 3D models of the X9 that I can zoom around and play with, and this machine… [Read more]
