Differences between this year’s maintenance and last year; Reminders. I don't know you.

Yesterday Lisa and I were out driving when we passed our favorite barbecue joint. I wouldn’t have even noticed, but the smell was amazing. It occurred to me that I’ve not had so much as a single bite of pork barbecue or pizza in 2011. Those are a couple of my favorite foods, so it’s fairly surprising that entering the month of June I’ve not had either of them so far this year. When I… [Read more]

Memorial Day story about something that happened yesterday. flag

Yesterday morning I decided to mount my bike to the car, load up my and head over to Wekiwa State Park for a fun morning of mountain biking. As I approached the entrance to the park I was surprised to see traffic backed up for at least a half-mile in both directions. I figured the park would be more crowded than usual because it’s Memorial Day weekend, but I certainly wasn’t expecting anything like the… [Read more]

2011 maintenance weekly progress report: week #7. EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale

Week #7 of my 2011 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. My goal is to complete 2011 without ever rising above 10% body fat. My scale weight this morning (as measured by the ) is 174.8 pounds. That’s a 1 pound loss since last week, and a 1.2 pound gain from my end-of-cut weight of 173.6 pounds. My 7-point body fat reading this morning is 7.2% (the digital caliper… [Read more]

Today’s cardio: Yard Work! Yard work. Yay.

I’d love to go mountain biking this morning, but today is officially project day around here. This morning I’ll be doing yard work, then I need to go to the home center for a few items that I need to complete a few other projects around here. It’s been pretty hot lately, but I still like working in the yard quite a lot. Back before my transformation I used to let the yard go for… [Read more]

New “Favorite Things” item; Trained yesterday, riding this morning. Timex Ironman Heart Rate Monitor

Yesterday I (finally) added the awesome Timex Ironman to My Favorite Things. You can check out my thoughts and the review here. I don’t think a day has gone by since I purchased the Ironman that I have not used it. It’s a fantastic piece of fitness equipment for the price. If you don’t have a heart rate monitor then I urge you to invest the 60 bucks; it’s money very well spent if you… [Read more]

Did something a little different on yesterday’s bike ride… Wekiwa, May 25, 2011.

For some reason yesterday morning I had even more energy than usual and I was itching to get out on the trails and put the hammer down. I decided to bike over to Wekiwa forest instead of drive because it’s been awhile since I’ve done that and I wanted to get some road miles in. I did a total of 26.4 miles yesterday: 18.4 miles off-road, and 8 miles on the pavement. On the way… [Read more]

Wasp attack! At least 5 wasp stings.

Last night just before bed I accidentally disturbed a large paper wasp nest that I did not see in the dark. Man, those little guys were really pissed! I was instantly attacked and stung at least five times all around my lower right bicep. Wasp stings hurt, but I don’t find them to be incredibly painful. I usually just go, “Ow, damn it!” and go about my business. The multiple stings hurt quite a bit… [Read more]

Pushing through the pain; Cardio for the soul. Beautiful and very old Live Oak Tree

For yesterday’s mountain biking session I decided to do a mix of road and trail riding. For the paved portion of my workout I focused on all-out riding for as long as I could go followed by brief sections of active recovery at about 60% exertion. For example, I’d go all out for a mile (which, depending on the elevation changes, takes me about 2.5 – 3 minutes) and then I’d do 1/2 mile at… [Read more]

Fun weekend; Pre-vacation diet plans; Mountain biking this morning. Relaxing out back with Lisa and her parents.

What a fun weekend! As I mentioned in Saturday’s blog, we were in celebration mode and I relaxed my diet quite a bit over the entire weekend. We even went out to eat for breakfast on Sunday morning, and I especially enjoyed that because I almost never go out for breakfast (like, maybe once very couple of years). It was very crowded, and by the time we were seated it was way past my normal… [Read more]
