Mountain biking this morning, leg workout tomorrow.

This past weekend was a lot of fun, but my diet was pretty ugly. On Saturday we went out for Mexican food and I had beef fajitas, beans, rice, guacamole and roughly 230 pounds of tortilla chips with fresh salsa. Yesterday Lisa made frittatas and biscuits for breakfast, and later in the day I ate a bucket of theater popcorn and some Goobers. Last night for dinner I grilled some bacon cheeseburgers and served them with dill potatoes. That’s OK, this was really the first time since my cut ended about one month ago that I truly relaxed my diet. I’m still at 7% body fat, so I’m doing a great job of maintaining so far.

If you read yesterday’s blog (my weekly progress report) then you know I was holding some water from all that salty food on Saturday night. Since yesterday’s diet wasn’t any cleaner, I’m feeling just as bloated this morning as I was yesterday. Today is supposed to be my leg workout, but what I’m really in the mood for is some sweaty mountain biking. So that’s what I’m going to do as soon as I post this blog.

There was a time when I would stick to my planned workout schedule “just because”, but I just don’t see that point in that anymore. I’m not a bodybuilder, I’m not a powerlifter and I’m not a fitness model: I’m an average guy who loves being active and staying in good shape to enhance the quality of my life and my enjoyment of the sports I participate in. I want to go mountain biking right now, so why shouldn’t I? I’ll do my leg workout tomorrow–or maybe I won’t and will go mountain biking again!

There truly has been a massive shift in the fundamental reason that I choose to train, and that change has renewed my passion and–more importantly–my enjoyment of training and staying fit.

…time for some mountain biking!
