I love my job because if there are no emergencies or pressing projects I can choose to take a few hours to go mountain biking in the morning if I want, and then just work a little late to make up for it. The flexible hours are very nice, but the downside is that I’m pretty much on call all the time. That means if a router or server goes down at 3:15 AM in Saturday morning, well, tough crap–I have to deal with it.
So today I had all these wonderful plans to get up at 5:00 AM and finish my work by lunchtime so that I could take the afternoon off. Unfortunately that ain’t happening. We had a network emergency yesterday that is bleeding into today, and I’ve got to deal with that this morning. By the time this issue is resolved I’m going to be a half-day behind. The reason I wanted to finish up my work early today is because forum member SanFran_E (Eric) turned me onto a three day online food photography workshop, Food Photography with Penny De Los Santos. The course starts today at 1:00 PM (EDT) and is actually free if you attend live. It should be very educational for someone like me who loves food and photography! There’s no way I’ll be able to attend every minute of the three-day course, but I’m going to try to watch as much as I can and learn from one of the best food photographers in the business. She’s shooting with the awesome Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, but I’m especially jealous of the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS lens she’ll be using. Anyway, I thought I’d mention this in case anyone else out there has an interest.
I’m probably going to skip today’s workout and do it tomorrow when I have a bit more time. Right now I need to get my equipment packed up and get on the road. Happy Friday!
