The most unhealthy meal I’ve eaten this year.

Chili's Country-Fried Steak. Your heart will explode.

Yesterday morning I had to leave the house in a hurry for work, and I decided to skip breakfast because I was expecting a shipment of protein bars (possible new sponsor!) to be waiting for me at the post office. It was a bit of a gamble, because I’m pretty much useless without breakfast (as I mentioned recently I never skip breakfast), but I thought for sure the protein bars would have arrived by now. Unfortunately I was greeted by an empty PO box, and I didn’t have time to return home. In fact I was running so late that I didn’t even have time to stop at the store. I went to the datacenter with an empty stomach, and by the time I wrapped up my work it was almost noon. I had a headache and felt very light-headed, and of course I was absolutely starving to death.

I knew I was going to be passing right by where Lisa works, so I gave her a call and asked her if she wanted to meet for lunch. We decided to go to Chili’s, which I’ve not been to in years. I was so hungry that I thought I was going to chew my own arm off, and pretty much everything on the menu looked amazing. You can see where this is going…

I decided to order country-fried steak because I really love it, but I never get to eat it. By the end of the meal I’d woofed down about 500 corn chips with beef queso, a massive country fried steak with gravy, a pile of french fries (instead of the mashed potatoes), a piece of garlic bread and 2 beers. I’m being conservative when I say that all this food had to be in excess of 5,000 calories.

Wow.

Just to give you an idea of how hungry I was, even after eating all that crap I didn’t feel overstuffed. Later in the afternoon I started feeling lethargic and I was barely hungry by 7:00 PM. For dinner I ate a light tuna wrap (no mayo) on a whole grain tortilla with some lettuce and fresh tomato.

Never. Skip. Breakfast.

Needless to say I’m up almost 5 pounds of water weight this morning (I don’t even want to think about how much sodium I consumed) and I’m feeling pretty sluggish. As soon as I post this somewhat embarrassing blog I’m going to hop on the bike and probably do about 50 miles. Have a fantastic Saturday… oh, and please eat your breakfast!
