Bike on a Trail: Vultures surround what was once Prevatt Lake

Bike on a Trail: Vultures surround what was once Prevatt Lake

I know I said I was going to wait another week to get back out on the trails, but yesterday morning I was unable to resist the temptation any longer. I loaded up my bike and headed over to Wekiwa for a short, but intense, 15 mile ride.

It was an overcast morning and so the heat was bearable, but the humidity was beyond ridiculous. When the humidity is that high it makes it much tougher to get out at full speed because it feels like I’m unable to draw enough oxygen. It’s a very uncomfortable feeling: it sort of reminds me of back when I used to smoke.

I said the humidity made fast riding “much tougher”, not impossible. 🙂 I rode at full-speed almost the entire time, and I had an amazing workout. My average heart rate was in the mid 170s. I really felt good out there, but I have to say that even after just one week of reduced riding I could definitely tell that my cardio was a bit off from its peak. I’d say that I was at 90% of my optimal conditioning level yesterday. I remember back when I used to swim competitively taking just two or three days off from training made a noticeable difference in my performance. The nice thing is that it comes back quickly.

I’ll leave you with the rest of the photographs I took yesterday while I was riding. Blow up the pictures and mouse over them for my captions.

  1. hey John just so you know, the ad on the right side (a needle biopsy video) interfered with the captions on the blow up pictures. May be good to know when you’re posting picture/video again.

  2. Hey – do you have your Mountain Biking related posts organized somehow? I’m just getting into this sport (I’m hooked, and thanks for bringing the sport to light, for me, through these blog posts) and it would be cool to go back through your past posts related to gear, etc…
