Wednesday, January 23, 2019 - Welcome, guest user!

Very exciting announcment coming within a week! Don't peek!

I’m going to be a big tease this morning. As most of you know John Stone Fitness doesn’t accept just any company that wants to become an Official Sponsor. Over the past eight years I’ve only added a select few Official Sponsors who not only provide products or services that I actually use myself, but also provide stellar customer service. Very few companies make the cut–I’ve turned down far more than I’ve accepted. For more… [Read more]

I biked almost 50 miles over the weekend; New “Favorite Things” product. My latest "Bike on a Trail" photo.

I did a whole lot of mountain biking over the weekend: just shy of 50 miles, most of it off-road. It was hotter than hell out there, and the humidity was pretty sick, too. I was able to adapt to the heat and humidity relatively quickly on both days, and I had a couple of incredible rides. On Saturday I made my way to the hill you see pictured here. Taking the sandy path all… [Read more]

Sport Beans I've been breaking these out a lot the past few weeks.

Inexpensive, delicious and lightweight, Sport Beans are my favorite method of replenishing lost electrolytes while I’m performing outdoor sports.

Week #13 of my 2011 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. My goal is to complete 2011 without ever rising above 10% body fat. My scale weight this morning (as measured by the ) is 179.2 pounds. That’s a 0.8 pound gain since last week’s weight of 178.4 pounds, and a 5.6 pound gain from my end-of-cut weight of 173.6 pounds. Banana plants doing awesome; I love our fruit trees; Bike ride? Banana Plants!

I’ve been out back working in the yard all morning and enjoying the brief window of relatively cool temperatures. I’m extremely happy with the location we chose for our banana plants. When we planted the bananas a few months ago they were not even a foot high, but look at them now! They are growing like wildfire, and providing the nice tropical background to the pond’s landscaping that we envisioned. The biggest of the three… [Read more]

America, we’re getting really fat, and I’m going to rant a little bit. You're doing it wrong.

I was just reading an article on the obesity problem in America. Over the past 15 years the obesity epidemic in this country has gone from bad to downright shocking. The quote that jumped off the page at me and really drove the point home is this one: “Today, the state with the lowest adult obesity rate would have had the highest rate in 1995.” Wow. Colorado wins the award for the lowest obesity rate… [Read more]

Excellent 24.2 mile mountain bike ride; Cardio breakthrough imminent? "Bike on a Trail" photo for July 6, 2011.

I’m so glad that I decided to postpone my weight training workout yesterday so I could go mountain biking. Even though I did 18.6 miles on Tuesday, evidently I wasn’t satisfied because yesterday morning I was craving another ride so much that it was all I could think about. I decided to drive over to Wekiwa State Park, and there I did 24.2 miles, all off-road. The heat was oppressive, and the humidity was thick… [Read more]

196 BPM is becoming a very common sight. Peak heart rate: this is becoming a common sight.

I only did 18.6 miles yesterday, but I absolutely killed it out there! Of course I took my camera along for the ride, but I didn’t feel like stopping to take pictures. In fact, I only stopped one time a little over halfway through the ride to replenish with some (the heat was pretty intense). I hit my maximum heart rate at least 5 times, and my heart rate over most of the ride was… [Read more]

Incredible 4th of July celebration; Back to work. Fireworks, 4th of July 2011

Yesterday was so much fun! We started off the day with a light breakfast, and then for lunch we went to our favorite barbecue place for some slow roasted pork barbecue served ith plenty of hot sauce, baked beans, french fries and garlic bread. I washed my lunch down with a couple Guinness Extra Stout beers. After lunch we came back to the house to watch a movie up in the theater. Of course we… [Read more]

Happy 4th of July; Last night’s dinner; Fireworks. flag

It’s America’s 235th birthday today! I still remember visiting Washington DC during America’s Bicentennial in 1976; I’ve never seen so much red, white and blue in all my life! It’s hard to believe it’s been 35 years since then. Man, now I’m starting to feel really old… We started our 4th of July celebration yesterday. Last night for dinner I made a riff on Bobby Flay’s Santa Fe Burgers: lean ground beef patties, peppers roasted… [Read more]
