I woke up this morning at 3:45 and simply could not fall back asleep. I guess I have a lot on my mind right now (not bad things, things that I’m excited about!) I tossed and turned for an hour and finally came to the realization that it was time to get up. After drinking my coffee and getting my morning computer chores out of the way, I was feeling motivated to continue a project I started yesterday evening. The project I’m working on is cleaning and completely re-organizing the garage. I just cleaned the garage this past spring, but at the time I didn’t plan an area where I could store and work on my bikes. So the focus of this project is to create a nice little section in the garage where I can have all my bike tools, lubes and various bike parts neatly organized, and also a place to work on the bikes. The other issue is that three bikes take up a lot of floor space, so I ordered the Racor Pro PLB-2R Two-Bike Gravity Freestanding Bike Stand to take advantage of some vertical space. I’ll store the two Trek 4300s on the Racor stand, and my Trek Fuel will be kept on my Park Tools PCS-9 repair stand.

I’ve received several emails in response to recent blogs from people who are interested in getting into mountain biking and/or doing their own bike maintenance. In the near future I’m going to write a fairly detailed blog about how you can get started in awesome sport of mountain biking. Hopefully some of my experiences over the past couple of years can help save JSF readers some time, money and aggravation.

Speaking of saving money, one great way to do that is to set up your own basic bike maintenance shop and learn how to do your own bike maintenance and repairs. Bike maintenance is critical–not only for the longevity of your bike, but also for safety reasons. Learning how to do a lot of those regular maintenance and repair tasks yourself will save you lots of time and money over the years. Once I get my bike workshop organized and completely set up I’ll take some photographs and write a blog with more information on the subject.

I love Hoisin sauce!

I love Hoisin sauce!

A couple of nights ago I made a brand new salmon recipe that my mom came up with. It was incredible! I’ll be sure to add that recipe to the JSF Recipe Section the next time I make it. The reason I bring this up now is because her recipe calls for Hoisin sauce. Now I’m sure I’ve had Hoisin before in restaurant dishes, but I personally have never used it in my cooking. Of course the first thing any decent chef does when he or she is not familiar with an ingredient is taste it. I gave it a little taste and liked the flavor a lot, but it really came alive with the other ingredients. My first thought was, “This would be amazing in my Asian Stir Fry!” So last night I whipped up my usual stir fry, only this time I added 1.5 tablespoons of Hoisin to the sauce. It was awesome!

If you do any Asian cooking at all, I highly recommend having a jar of this stuff on hand, it’s really good!
