Monday, October 14, 2019 - Welcome, guest user!

I bought the materials for my backyard mtb skinny practice area. Worst. Skinny. Rider. Ever.

Yesterday I went to Home Depot and purchased the raw materials to build my backyard skinny practice feature. I picked up (3) 8-foot pressure treated 1×6 boards, (4) 8-foot pressure treated 2×4 boards and a box of galvanized nails. The idea is to use the 1x6s to create the riding surface (1x6s are actually 5.5 inches in width), and the 2x4s to create the support structure. I bought enough 2x4s (which are actually 3.5″ in… [Read more]

Camera woes continue; Push presses for power and explosiveness. Barbell pushpress.

I am really bummed this morning. It looks like I won’t be able to use my DSLR with the Cotton Carrier while mountain biking any more. Even with the protective rubber skin I purchased for my camera, moisture and sand are still getting in the camera through the spaces around the buttons. My camera is malfunctioning once again this morning, and I’m probably going to have to have it professionally cleaned and/or repaired now. ๐Ÿ™… [Read more]

Morning workout sets the tone for the day; XC personal record broken again! Bike on a Trail for September 27, 2011. I took this photo at the fishbowl right after setting my new timed run personal record.

A week ago yesterday I attempted to break my XC (cross-country) mountain biking timed run personal record, and missed it by a very disappointing two seconds. I realized after the failed attempt that going for a personal record the day after leg day was, perhaps, not the smartest thing to do. So leave it to me to attempt the personal record again yesterday (the day after leg day). Because I only missed my personal record… [Read more]

Rode Soldiers Creek yesterday on flats; Want a FREE tub of BCAA+ powder? Bike on a Trail for September 25, 2011.

Yesterday I decided to head over to Soldiers Creek to try out my new . It’s been many months since I’ve hit up Soldiers Creek, and so I was pretty excited. First, about the pedals. The 420s are excellent platform pedals; my stayed firmly in place most of the time (see next paragraph) and they felt solid and comfortable. I’m really happy with how the pedals performed. These flats are going to be perfect for… [Read more]

Week #24 of my 2011 maintenance program is complete, and itโ€™s time for my weekly progress report. My goal is to complete 2011 without ever rising above 10% body fat. My scale weight this morning (as measured by the ) is 181.4 pounds. That’s a 0.8 pound loss since last week’s weight of 182.2 pounds, and a 7.8 pound gain from my end-of-cut weight of 173.6 pounds. My 7-point body fat reading this morning is… [Read more]

New flat DH/FR pedals will be here today. Azonic 420 Flat Pedals

The other day I decided to do some mountain biking skills practice (where the chance of falling is pretty much 100%), so I removed my clipless pedals and bolted up the cheap plastic pedals that the bike shop put on my Trek Fuel EX 8 when I bought it. These plastic pedals were only meant to be a temporary set while I decided on a permanent pair of pedals, but I kept them around because… [Read more]

Worst mtb trail in Central Florida? Snakes, spiders, sugar sand & ticks. "Bike on a Beach" shot..., um, I mean "Bike on a Trail" shot for September 22, 2011.

Yesterday I was in the mood to check out some new trails, so I decided to head over to Rock Springs Run State Reserve. Rock Springs Run State Reserve is a 14,000 acre state park located in Sorrento, Florida. I knew there were mountain biking trails there, but the reviews of the biking trails were pretty bad. Still, I thought it would be fun to check them out myself, get a good workout in and… [Read more]

For better or worse, diet habits are hard to break; AtLarge 15% off sale! AtLarge Nutrition

Coming off what was probably my worst maintenance week so far this year (my body fat rose from 8.3% to 8.8%), I have focused on really tightening up my diet. As I mentioned in this past Sunday’s weekly progress report, over the past 2 weekends I’ve been pretty lax with my diet (2 or 3 full-blown cheat meals and a few semi-cheat meals). So far this week my diet has been 100% clean, but my… [Read more]

The agony of defeat: 2 seconds. Bike on a Trail for September 2011.

Before I get to the focus of today’s blog, I want to mention that yesterday’s “Bike on a Trail” photograph has special meaning to me. Almost one year ago I rode my bike from my house to what I thought was an entrance to the Wekiwa State Park. When I got to the location where I thought I could gain access to the park, there was nothing but a locked, unmanned gate and razor wire… [Read more]
