Trained legs yesterday; Work keeping me from morning ride.
My original plan was to wait until Wednesday to get back to the iron, but yesterday afternoon I was dying to train. My ribs were feeling real good, so I decided to go ahead and try a leg workout. I kept things fairly light, but I was breathing pretty heavily at the end of most sets. I experienced some minor rib discomfort at certain points, but for the most part my ribs didn’t bother me at all. I was a little worried that the workout might cause some delayed discomfort, and/or set my recovery back, but thankfully that doesn’t seem to have happened: I slept great last night, and my ribs feel good this morning!
So it looks like the rib injury only put me out of action for 1 week. All things considered that’s not too bad at all–especially knowing that if I’d broken one or more of them I would have been out for months!
I’d planned to hit the trails for the first time in more than a week this morning, but I woke up to some network problems at work that require my immediate attention (I’ve been working since 6:00 AM). This is the other side of the double-edged sword that is my job: my position affords me a great deal of flexibility with my hours, but when there’s a problem that can’t wait I have to drop what I’m doing and deal with it–even if I’m on vacation, on the trails, it’s in the middle of the night or on the weekend. Trust me, I’m not complaining!
It’s going to be pretty hot and humid today, but if I can break away for an afternoon ride I’m going to do it.
I’ve got to get back to work now. Thanks for reading, have a fantastic day!
