Time to die, weeds.

Time to die, weeds.

I’m not really in the mood to ride this morning, but the weather is very nice right now: 66 degrees (F) and sunny. I’ve been putting off a project that I absolutely hate, and that’s weeding around the pond. So I think I’m going to go out back and work in the gardens this morning.

I won’t use products like Roundup any more because there are so many creatures in and around the pond that are very sensitive to things like weed killers. Toads and frogs, like most (all?) amphibians, don’t drink water using their mouths, they absorb water through their skin! This makes them highly susceptible to even small amounts of toxic substances. There have been some alarming studies that show products like Roundup are highly lethal to amphibians.

I recently did some research on Roundup, and it’s extremely nasty stuff. Please don’t use it. These kinds of poisons are harmful to the environment and extremely toxic to just about any living thing that comes in contact with them.

Pulling weeds by hand is a lot more work, but I didn’t create a backyard haven for all these wonderful creatures to poison them because I was too lazy to pull some weeds.
