Week #32 of my 2011 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. My goal is to complete 2011 without ever rising above 10% body fat. My scale weight this morning (as measured by the ) is 182.8 pounds. That’s a 0.4 pound loss since last week’s weight of 183.2 pounds, and a 9.2 pound gain from my end-of-cut weight of 173.6 pounds. My 7-point body fat reading this morning is… [Read more]

Working outside today. Time to die, weed.

I’m not really in the mood to ride this morning, but the weather is very nice right now: 66 degrees (F) and sunny. I’ve been putting off a project that I absolutely hate, and that’s weeding around the pond. So I think I’m going to go out back and work in the gardens this morning. I won’t use products like Roundup any more because there are so many creatures in and around the pond that… [Read more]

Not much time to write, Loki to the vet for early appointment. Loki enjoying his favorite snack.

I’m going to have to make today’s blog brief because Loki has an early appointment with the vet. This is just his regular geriatric exam, which he has every six months. I found Loki running around where I used to work 15 years ago almost to the day. We put up signs, but I knew he was a stray and no one would claim him. So I took him home and he’s been part of… [Read more]

Follow-up to yesterday’s blog: Grilling! Weber Genesis E-320 Propane Gas Grill

I wanted to follow yesterday’s blog with a little more information that may be helpful to those looking to make healthy eating more enjoyable. One of the cooking tools that I find indispensable is my grill. Grilled food tastes incredible, and when your food tastes great it’s much easier to eat healthy. A question about grilling that I’ve been asked many times over the years is “Propane or charcoal?” I’ve owned both types of grill,… [Read more]

Are you making losing fat harder than it needs to be? Unbelievable Chicken

Last night for dinner I made one of of my all-time favorite chicken recipes, Unbelievable Chicken. Some people, especially those who are new to healthy eating and fat loss, may see some of the marinade ingredients (brown sugar, for example) and think, “Oh, I can’t eat that!” Hey, I understand where you’re coming from (I’ve been there), but trust me: you don’t have to torture yourself by eating the same, boring chicken breasts meal after… [Read more]

Trained legs yesterday; Work keeping me from morning ride. 45 pound plate

My original plan was to wait until Wednesday to get back to the iron, but yesterday afternoon I was dying to train. My ribs were feeling real good, so I decided to go ahead and try a leg workout. I kept things fairly light, but I was breathing pretty heavily at the end of most sets. I experienced some minor rib discomfort at certain points, but for the most part my ribs didn’t bother me… [Read more]

Rib pain is all but gone, training resumes tomorrow; Mastover 15% off sale! Good morning!

I can’t believe how quickly my ribs have improved! Just 48 hours ago–Saturday morning–my ribs were hurting worse than ever. Between the nightmares and the extreme rib pain I’ve been sleeping horribly, and that has really added to my discomfort. I was starting to think the doctor missed something, because the pain seemed to be getting worse… This morning the pain is all but gone! I didn’t wake up at all last night, and the… [Read more]

How are nightmares, cleaning and rib pain related? Lack of exercise does strange things to a person.

The title of this blog is no joke. This has been one of the strangest weeks in recent memory. The rib injury I sustained last Sunday is at the root of all this weirdness… First of all, I’m really glad that I went to the doctor this past Monday. If I hadn’t gone I’d be very worried right now. My ribs literally hurt worse now than they did in the days following the injury. It’s… [Read more]

I overlooked an important anniversary: 11 years smoke-free! How I quit. More than 11 years smoke-free!

October 31st is a date that rarely passes unnoticed by me. The reason that date is noteworthy is because on October 31, 2000 I crushed out what would be the last cigarette of my life. The past couple of years that anniversary has quietly slipped by, and that’s a good thing because it demonstrates that smoking is something I never even think about anymore. A bit of background for those of you who don’t know…. [Read more]
