Health and fitness: much more than just looking good naked.

If today’s workout is as good as the rest of my workouts have been this week (it will be), then I will have set new strength personal records for my body weight on every single exercise I’m currently doing. I can’t wait to train today. In fact, instead of my usual late afternoon training time I think I’m going to lift on my lunch hour today.

I can’t even begin to describe how positive, energetic and motivated I am feeling right now. It seems the deeper I get into this cut, the better I feel. My clean, all-natural, alcohol-free diet is fueling some of the best cardio and strength training workouts of my life.

While I like to party and eat junk food as much as the next person, I think being ultra-strict for a few months out of the year does me a tremendous amount of good. These “all or nothing” pre-summer cuts that I do each year are not just to lean out: they help remind me that healthy living is the foundation on which the rest of my life is built.

Also, being perfect (and I do mean perfect) with my diet and training (no cheat meals, no alcohol, no missed workouts–no exceptions) for extended periods of time helps keeps my self-discipline “muscles” in shape. The ability to self-motivate and be extremely disciplined when it’s required of me are not just skills that apply to training, they are crucial life skills. I have honed those two skills over the years primarily through my fitness endeavors, and so when I say that healthy living forms the foundation of my life I really mean it. Nearly every significant accomplishment in my life over the past decade has its roots firmly planted in the healthy lifestyle I began in 2003.

Of course looking like I’m 25 at 43 years of age is a nice fringe benefit, too. 🙂

Thanks for reading–Happy Friday!
