March 7, 2012. Between 6% and 6.5% body fat here.

I was even more fired up than usual to train yesterday, and I had a feeling it was going to be another excellent workout (chest/triceps/delts). It was…

For the ninth week in a row I added weight and/or reps to every exercise. I kicked off the workout by adding 10 more pounds to my flat bench press, which I supersetted with triceps rope pressdowns (+5 pounds to those). Just 60 seconds of rest between each superset kept things moving along at a fast clip. The weights I used for both of those exercises were new personal records for my current body weight, and I hit my target reps on the bench press once again so I’ll be adding weight to my bench again next week.

Fast forward to the end of the workout. I love to end this particular workout with a few DB lateral “down the rack” drop sets. Last week I hit my target reps on those, and so I added weight this week. Normally with laterals I increase the weight in 2.5 pound increments by slapping a couple of 1.25 pound plate mates on each dumbbell, but yesterday I was feeling so good that I decided to add 5 pounds per dumbbell. While I didn’t hit my target reps on every set, I came pretty darn close and set another strength personal record for my current body weight.

After my workout I was tired, but I was looking lean and pumped so I decided to take a few pictures. I grabbed my camera and took 3 or 4 shots, but the only one that came out halfway decent was the very first shot that I took to test the lighting. I added the photo shown above to my 2012 photo gallery.

I normally like to get some mountain biking in on Thursday mornings before work, but I’ve got an early morning appointment today. I think I’m going to have to do an afternoon cardio session in the gym. I’d like to do an extended 50-55 minute medium-high intensity cardio workout, but available time may dictate a shorter HIIT cardio workout. The HIIT intervals I’m up to now are getting crazy tough, so either way it’s going to be a good workout!

Train hard folks, summer is coming fast! 🙂

  1. Great pic John, how is the wrist holding up? I’m always interested in injuries and how the body responds to stress on those injures. I’ve had issues with both my wrist and shoulders in the past, just like you 🙂 Oh, and congrats on being able to do dead lifts and squats again!

    • Thanks! 🙂

For the most part my wrist has not been a problem this cut. I have felt some amount of pain in my right wrist and right shoulder, especially over the past couple of weeks, but so far it’s not been worth mentioning. I always wrap my wrists for extra support, and that helps a lot.
