Yesterday I had my very first splurge meal of the year, and it was absolutely incredible.
We went to our favorite Mexican restaurant, and I ordered the same thing I always get: steak fajitas. While we waited for our food I ate about 100 pounds of warm corn chips with fresh salsa while sipping from a margarita on the rocks. When our food came I devoured every bite of the fajitas, and then went right back into the corn chips without breaking stride. I easily consumed more calories in that one meal than I’ve consumed in any single entire day so far this year. I’m surprised I was able to eat as much as I did, but the food tasted so good I didn’t want to stop. 🙂
We ate about 3:30 PM, and I was still completely stuffed when I went to bed. Even though I ate way too much, I still didn’t feel uncomfortably full. Or maybe I did, but was just too happy to care.
I slept like a baby last night, which I was quite happy about. This morning when I woke up I was surprised to find that I was only up a little over 2 pounds. I expected to retain much more than 2 pounds of water after consuming all that salt. Heck, the salt around the rim of my margarita alone probably contained more sodium than I typically consume in an entire day. I don’t even want to think about the corn chips…
We had a fantastic time, and I really enjoyed my first real junk food indulgence of the year. I earned it.
Today I’m back to the iron. I’m well rested–and well fueled–for a great workout. I took two weeks off from weight training after my cut ended, and so I’m eager to get back in the gym and start smashing personal records again.
