Rain on the way; Shoulder acting up after workout.
It looks like we’ve got some rain in the forecast over the holiday weekend! Good, we really need it, and the trails always run faster after a good soaking.
I’d love to go ride now, but I’m looking at about 5 hours of yard work today. Also, Lisa’s parents are coming to stay with us over the long weekend, so I won’t be able to ride again until Tuesday at the earliest. Hopefully a few days of rest along with the rain-packed trails will result in some new personal records next week.
Yesterday was a weight training day (upper body), and I went low volume and heavy. It was a good workout, but I’m feeling a little pain in my right shoulder this morning. I think it happened on my final set of barbell bench presses: I was pushing really hard to get one last rep up, and I stalled for what felt like 10 seconds as I struggled to complete the rep. The weight won that battle. My strength gave out and the barbell crashed down on the safety spotters. After my shower I could already tell my shoulder was a little off, and this morning that all-too-familiar nagging pain is present.
Thankfully my shoulder problems have been few and far between over the past 6 or 7 years, and have not really affected my training. I don’t think this time is going to be any different, but I’m going to be careful not to do anything that might further aggravate it.
Well, I’d better get outside and get to work. It’s going to be hot one…
