Excellent ride yesterday: set two new personal records! Yesterday's time was 58 seconds better than my previous best on this segment.

Yesterday morning I was in the mood to ride hard, and ride fast. I decided that I was going to ride at Wekiwa with the primary goal of breaking my record on the first segment: Sand Lake Trailhead to Marker 13 (Red Blaze Trail). That’s the segment that I’ve was timing myself on long before I started using Strava. My best time, I felt, was going to be very tough to beat. One note about… [Read more]

Made that Costco run yesterday… ouch. This always hurts, but I like to buy in bulk.

I love Costco because they have amazing deals on many of the items that we use every day–especially proteins like chicken, fish, shrimp and beef. I also stock up on things like coffee beans, dry roasted almonds, cleaning supplies, oatmeal, cooking spray and so on. What I don’t like about Costco is that it’s generally very crowded–especially on weekends. Thinking about how crowded the store was going to be over the weekend (along with the… [Read more]

Chicken breasts are my #1 protein source (and I’m out!) Happier times: plenty of Gold Kist Farms boneless, skinless chicken breasts. My freezer is currently devoid of these.

If I had to live with only one form of protein for the rest of my life, boneless/skinless chicken breasts would easily be my choice. That’s not to say the chicken breast is my favorite protein source, but I feel it’s by far the healthiest and most versatile. I buy the Gold Kist Farms boneless, skinless chicken breasts from Costco. Each package has 12 breasts of various weights (usually 7 or 8 ounces each), 2… [Read more]

I set 4 new PRs/KOMs; Mountain King Tires in wet conditions. Wet trail conditions yesterday.

Sometimes stress, irritation and being in a foul mood can be channeled into positive energy. Yesterday morning was a perfect example of that. When I hit the trails, I took all the negativity I was feeling out on the pedals. We’ve had a lot of rain lately (which we desperately need). The trail conditions yesterday were a mixed bag. On one hand the sugar sand was packed down from the rain, but on the other… [Read more]

Taking the day off. Seriously.

I’m not in the mood to write this morning. This has just been a really bad week: lack of sleep, a large and difficult workload, stress at work and zero exercise. All of those factors, combined with a couple of other things, has me feeling like I’m about to explode this morning. Rather than sit here and whine about my problems, I’m going to do something that always makes me feel better when I’m stressed:… [Read more]

Took a rare nap yesterday; Slept well last night. I don't really sleep with a stuffed bear. Well, not too often, anyway.

I can count on one hand the number of naps I’ve taken over the past 10 years. I really dislike taking naps during the waking hours, but yesterday was one of those rare occasions when I felt I had no choice. I was not making very good progress with my huge workload, and I kept making stupid mistakes while logged into critical servers as “root” (the administrator account in Unix/Linux). After one particularly dangerous error,… [Read more]

Sleepless in Orlando. I might make another one. Seriously.

Facing a huge workload while in a zombie-like state is not the greatest way to start off a week, but that’s my story this morning. Last night was one of those nights that I simply could not quiet my mind. I woke up about 1:00 AM and tossed and turned for more than an hour before finally getting up. After blankly staring at my computer monitor for a couple of hours, I went back to… [Read more]

Beautiful morning; Inspiring life transformation video. Tufted Tit Mouse.

It’s a fairly cool (65° F) morning, and so I’ve been out back doing some light weeding, pruning and fertilization. I don’t enjoy weeding very much, but even that chore is tolerable when it’s this nice outside! Many of the creatures that frequent our backyard have become very trusting of me. Some of the squirrels barely pay attention to me when I approach, and many of the birds now allow me to get within touching… [Read more]
