Friday, January 18, 2019 - Welcome, guest user!

Slept great last night; Good cornering practice sesh yesterday. I practiced on this bermed corner, and others, over and over this week.

For being pretty tired, I had one heck of a productive day yesterday! I had an excellent ride at Mt. Dora (more on that below), got a bunch of mini-projects at work done and I even managed to fix those broken pipes I mentioned in yesterday’s blog. Not surprisingly, I slept incredibly well last night. 🙂 So far this week I’ve ridden at the Mt. Dora MTB trails a couple of times. It’s amazing how… [Read more]

Broken pipes, awesome dreams, poor night of sleep, busy day, riding anyway. I got this.

This might be all over the place. I’m tired. Last night I was in a deep sleep and having some really crazy dreams. In the dream I recall most clearly my life was like an action movie (tanks, helicopters, speeding cars, guns, repelling down buildings, explosions…), and I was doing all kinds of crazy stunts and generally being completely awesome. Anyway, I woke up from that dream and just could not fall back asleep. I… [Read more]

Extreme heat, and its effect on heart rate. Feel the burn!

I’ll kick this off by saying today’s blog is very non-scientific, and is almost purely based on my own research, anecdotal evidence and (non-controlled) experiences. I’ve been thinking a lot about the 202 BPM peak heart rate that I hit last week, and why I had such a large increase over any of my other previously recorded maximum heart rates. I think the answer may have a lot to do with the very hot and… [Read more]

Took yesterday off; Heat and insects; Mountain bike cornering. Railing corners like this is a difficult, but important skill.

I felt like a day off from exercise was in order yesterday, and so I decided to relax and not do a darn thing. There was a brief moment during which I considered going mountain biking, but when I walked out back and felt the hot sun and humid air I realized I just wasn’t in the mood to be out in that. Nothing wrong with a day off every once in awhile. In fact,… [Read more]

Felt a little burnt during yesterday’s workout; Cardio and yard work today. I got a lot of the yard work done yesterday. Check those banana plants out!

I had a good start to my upper body weight training workout yesterday, but I sort of hit a wall on the last few sets. I have a feeling that Thursday’s mountain biking ride, which was hot and taxing, took a lot out of me. After my workout I went outside and got a jump on this weekend’s yard work. I’m not sure that was such a great idea. The heat and humidity were miserable,… [Read more]

Peak heart rate of 202 as I set two new Personal Records. Peak Heart Rate of 202 BPM.

When I rode yesterday I decided to focus my efforts on breaking my existing personal records on two segments of trail. The primary segment I went after was Marker 13 to Marker 19 (Red Blaze), which is a fairly short, but intense, 1.4 miles. The trail changes quite a lot over the segment’s 1.4 miles, so it’s a pretty fun and challenging all-out sprint. Things start off fairly flat and fast, then there are a… [Read more]

Lazy 4th of July: fireworks and excellent burgers! Fireworks!

We had a fun 4th of July celebration yesterday. I was feeling extraordinarily lazy, and so I didn’t do anything more strenuous than grill some burgers and chicken. We had lots of poblano peppers ready to harvest, so I grilled up a variation on Bobby Flay’s Santa Fe Burger. I make this burger with lean ground beef, blue corn tortilla chips, pepper jack cheese and poblano peppers roasted with olive oil, salt & pepper. I… [Read more]

Set several new personal records yesterday; Happy 4th of July! I was a sweaty, muddy mess at the end of my ride.

For my first mountain biking ride in two weeks I decided to go to Wekiwa and do a 8.4 mile ride. The route I selected has a nice mix of open trail with great scenery interspersed with semi-technical trails with plenty of roots (and some mud). I decided before I set out to attempt a new personal record for the entire loop. Doing so meant I would get no rest breaks, and that I would… [Read more]

Fuel is ready to roll; Rear shock still losing pressure, thoughts? My rebuilt American Classic 26" All Mountain wheel. Good as new!

My rebuilt American Classic 26″ All Mountain wheel was delivered by FedEx super early yesterday. Because the wheel arrived before noon, I was able to install the cassette and rotor, and then get the tubeless tire mounted and sealed up during my lunch hour. After work I installed the wheel on my Fuel, and then gave the bike a complete lube and tune-up. When I woke up this morning I was happy to find the… [Read more]
